Director of Research
Carissa Choong is an award-winning GIS administrator and Story Mapper as well as a high-level site selection and market analytics consultant. Carissa has 4 years of GIS and Story Mapping experience as well as 2 years of real estate research and management experience spanning both the local and private sectors. Carissa specializes in GIS web application development, Story Map development, data analytics, real estate research, and site selection. Carissa has the capabilities to make highly customized GIS applications and Story Maps that are unique to economic development organizations through her complimentary abilities of programming, IT, web design, marketing, and expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud.
Prior to joining Juniper, Carissa worked for 3 and a half years as a GIS Administrator and Lead for Summit County, Ohio. Carissa was responsible for overseeing GIS application and systems management while also heavily involved in economic development, providing site selection leadership as well as data research, mapping, and analytics.
While at Summit County, Carissa developed an Esri award-winning GIS economic development application in 2018, and won 2nd place and People’s Choice Award for an economic development Story Map highlighting the East Akron Job Hub. Carissa has also sat on numerous state of Ohio GIS expert’s panels as a specialist in web application development.
Recently, Carissa was named a runner-up in Esri’s global Story Mapper of the Year competition in 2019 for her Story Map titled “High Water Mark”. She was also named a “Top 25 Under 35” for young professionals in Northeast Ohio by The Cleveland Professional 20/30 Club.
Mrs. Choong holds an Honor’s Bachelor’s of Arts degree in History from the University of Akron (2013), a Master’s of Science degree in Geographic Information Systems from The University of Akron (2016), and a Certified Ohio Economic Developer certification from the Ohio Economic Development Association (2019).
